Themes: COPERMA- a local organization based in Butembo. The 8 person team works with survivors of sexual violence, girl-mothers, and demobilized child-soldiers in the rural villages. Mai-Mai- a community based rebel groups. Mai-Mai are known for using child-soldiers and they typically live in the rural "bush." FaRDC- the governmental soldier faction. FaRDC soldiers are often extremely corrupt and perpetrate extremely high levels of sexual violence and pillaging. FDLR- Forces for the Democratic Liberation of Rwanda. Rwandese ex-genocidaires who fled into Congo after the 1994 Rwandan genocide, mixed with younger Rwandese who did not partake in the genocide. They allegedly help mediate conflict mineral flow to Rwanda, and are the focus inside and outside of Congo as the primary problem. ADF-NALU- A rebel group originating from Uganda, with an unstated purpose as of yet, according to the United Nations. MONUSCO- The United Nations Mission in Congo DDR/RR- Demobilization etc. unit for the United Nations. DDR/RR works to extract combatants and provide access to repatriation programs in order to effectively reinsert ex-combatants into society.
